South of Lady Bird Lake, beside Zilker
Palmer Events Center transportation.
With the Austin Convention Center demolished and its replacement not opening until 2029, the Palmer Events Center is carrying a load it was built as a sister facility to share. That puts Lady Bird Lake between most delegate hotels and the main hall — a short crossing that quietly decides whether a shuttle loop holds its interval.

The river crossing is the whole problem
Delegate hotels cluster downtown, north of Lady Bird Lake. Palmer sits south of it on Barton Springs Road. Every rotation of a shuttle loop therefore crosses a bridge, and the bridges are where an eight-minute run becomes a twenty-minute one during the afternoon.
Loop design has to account for that or the promised interval quietly stops being true by mid-morning. We size the loop against the crossing, not against the map distance, and thicken it around the keynote and the close.
Running a citywide without a convention center
Austin is hosting large programs across a distributed set of rooms: Palmer, hotel ballrooms, and venues that were never meant to be a main hall. Delegates who once oriented themselves around one building are now moving between several.
That turns transportation from an amenity into part of the programme. The loop is not just a convenience between a hotel and a hall — it is often the only practical link between two sessions on the same agenda.
Zilker is next door, which cuts both ways
Palmer shares its corner of the city with Zilker Park. That is an asset for an offsite reception and a liability during ACL, when the park's crowd, the road closures and the festival's drop-off zones take over exactly the streets a conference shuttle needs.
Any program landing on an ACL weekend — the first two weekends of October in 2026 — should be planned with that overlap in front of it rather than discovered on the day.
Getting there

Palmer Events Center, answered.
No. It closed in April 2025 for a $1.6 billion rebuild and reopens in spring 2029. Programs in the meantime run at the Palmer Events Center, hotel ballrooms and other distributed downtown venues.
