Southeast Travis County, beyond the airport

Circuit of the Americas transportation.

Circuit of the Americas is the hardest venue in Austin to reach on an event day and the easiest to reach on any other. Fifteen miles southeast of downtown with effectively one approach road, it goes from a thirty-minute drive to a two-hour one depending entirely on which weekend you picked.

One road in, one road out

The circuit is served by TX-130 and Elroy Road, and the capacity of that approach — not the distance — is what determines your journey time. Traffic saturates from the venue backwards, so the final two miles routinely cost more than the preceding thirteen.

This is why the departure time matters more here than at any other Austin venue. A car leaving downtown at the hour that works for a Moody Center show will arrive at COTA well after the session it was booked for.

The airport is on the way, which changes the plan

Austin-Bergstrom sits between downtown and the circuit — ten miles from COTA, twelve from downtown. Guests flying in on an event morning are landing next door to the venue and then driving away from it to check in.

Where the schedule is tight we will suggest going straight from the terminal to the circuit with luggage held in the vehicle. It is not the elegant option, but it is frequently the one that gets you to the grid.

Staging the exit before you go in

Everyone leaves at once. The difference between a twenty-minute exit and a two-hour one is where the vehicle is waiting, and that is decided before you walk in rather than by phone afterwards.

We agree a named pickup point outside the main outbound flow, and hold the vehicle there. On a concert night at the circuit — which draws its own crowd on top of a race crowd — this is the whole game.

Getting there

Ranges for planning, not promises. Every pickup is timed against the schedule and the traffic plan for the day you are travelling.

Questions

Circuit of the Americas, answered.

Fifteen miles southeast, about thirty minutes with clear roads. On a Formula 1 Sunday, plan for one to two hours and set the departure against your session rather than the gate time.
