Zilker is a city park with no event parking, ringed by streets that close when something big happens in it. For ACL, the Trail of Lights or any of the city-scale gatherings it hosts, the question is never how to get to Zilker. It is which cordon you are aiming for, and where the car will be when you want to leave.

Choosing the right cordon
During ACL the festival publishes designated drop-off and pick-up zones rather than allowing vehicles near the park: south of the river along Barton Springs Road and Riverside Drive across Lamar, and north of the river on Stephen F. Austin Drive near the Crenshaw Bridge. Each sits under half a mile from an entrance.
Which one is correct depends on where you are staying and which entrance your ticket tier uses. Downtown pairs naturally with the north zone; South Congress and Zilker-adjacent stays pair with Barton Springs Road. That decision is made before you leave, not on Lamar at five in the afternoon.
The park empties all at once
A headliner ends and tens of thousands of people walk out through a handful of gates into a few streets. Phone signal degrades, ride-hail pricing spikes, and everyone in the pickup zone is describing the same landmark.
A chauffeur only solves this if the pickup point was chosen against the exit flow rather than the entrance. We stage away from the surge, name the corner in advance, and hold the vehicle so that the walk is short and the wait is nothing.
Beyond the festival
Zilker's calendar runs well past ACL — the Trail of Lights in December, the Kite Festival in spring, and a steady stream of races and community events that close the same roads on a smaller scale.
Those are easier days with the same geometry: no parking, controlled streets, and a set-down point that has to be agreed rather than assumed.
