Pflugerville, on the northeast side — not at Austin-Bergstrom

Austin Executive Airport.

Austin Executive is the airport people mean when they say they are flying private into Austin and then discover, on the ground, that they are on the wrong side of the city. It is in Pflugerville, northeast of town, roughly twenty miles from Austin-Bergstrom — and for a good number of trips that is exactly where you want to be.

It is not the airport your guest thinks it is

The single most common problem with an EDC arrival is that somebody in the chain assumed Austin-Bergstrom. They are twenty miles apart on opposite sides of the city, which is a fifty-minute error if the vehicle is sent to the wrong one and a wasted afternoon if it is discovered late.

So the airport is confirmed in writing on every booking, by identifier and by FBO name, and we would rather ask a question that sounds obvious than move a car across Austin at the wrong hour. If the itinerary says Austin and nothing else, that is a question, not a detail.

When the northeast side is the right choice

For anything in the northern half of the metro, EDC beats Bergstrom comfortably. The Domain is twenty to twenty-five minutes away against thirty to thirty-five from AUS, and Round Rock, Georgetown and the northern tech campuses are closer still. Guests visiting a campus in the morning and flying out the same evening save an hour of driving over the day.

It also sidesteps the commercial airfield entirely, which on a convention week or a festival Friday is worth more than the mileage suggests. The trade runs the other direction too: for downtown hotels, West Lake Hills and anything south, AUS is the better airport and EDC costs you time.

The runway sets the aircraft, and sometimes the plan

The main runway is 6,025 feet. That accommodates most of the light and midsize business jets flying into Texas comfortably, and it is a genuine constraint for the heaviest aircraft on a hot Austin afternoon when density altitude eats performance.

It is not our decision — the flight department or the operator makes it — but it is a reason an arrival can move to Bergstrom late, and a reason we confirm the airport rather than assume it holds. A ground plan built for EDC and executed at AUS is not a ground plan.

Getting off the field

Henriksen sits on Aviation Drive with quick access to State Highway 130, which is the fast road in this part of the metro and the reason the northern drive times hold up better than the map suggests. Downtown runs twenty-five to thirty-five minutes, and the Circuit of the Americas — the far corner of the city from here — around forty-five.

As at any private terminal, the vehicle is staged before the estimated arrival rather than dispatched against it, and the chauffeur waits inside.
